Darren Wang hit the jackpot when he snagged the lead role for the critically acclaimed movie, "Our Times." Rumor has it that the 24-year-old actor is planning to terminate his contract with manager Angie Chai, soon.
The Taiwanese actor is leaning towards joining film director, Chen Yu-shan's, agency, according to Jayne Stars. Wang still has three years with Chai, best known as the person behind the international phenomenon that is F4.
Naturally, Wang was met with criticism among fans and Chai's followers. The actor is being accused of ungratefulness especially after celebrity manager launched his career to superstardom.
However, his father, Wang Tai-ching, came to his son's rescue. The business tycoon admitted that the "Our Times" actor is actually signing a contract under his own production studio.
The wealthy businessman also revealed that his company is planning to shoot a billion dollar film called "Jiangshan" in which Wang will assume the role of a guerilla warrior. Ang Lee will be directing the film with Rene, Liu, Brigitte Lin, or Joan Chen as leading lady.
"Our Times" was a surprise blockbuster hit in mainland China, reported CRIEnglish.cn. The teen movie which stars newcomer, Vivian Sung, as the lead actress, generated over 210 million yuan (US$10 million) in just 10 days after its release. "Our Times" is now the highest-grossing film from Taiwan to make it in mainland China.
The film followed the story of couple reminiscing their high school days during the 90's. Actors Jerry Yan, Joe Chen, and Andy Lau had brief cameo roles.
