Fox previously announced that it was planning on producing two television series set in the "X-Men" universe, namely "Legion" and "Hellfire." The former has been confirmed to commence production but fans have been wondering why there is little to no news about "Legion." It turns out that Fox has opted to focus on another concept for their second show.

"Hellfire" was set to focus on the covert group, The Hellfire Club, which appeared in "X-Men: First Class." Manny Coto and Evan Katz were initially slated to run the small screen adaptation, but Fox recently made the call to axe out the show and move into a different direction. Science Fiction reported that the network is planning to run a show that would focus on a new family who will end up being on the run from the government after discovering that their children are manifesting mutant abilities. Creator of "Burn Notice," Matt Nix has already agreed to be the showrunner.

Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO, Dana Walden, explained the rationale behind their decision to axe out "Hellfire." In an interview with Collider, she said that "Hellfire" would be better off as another installment instead of a television series. She revealed that there initially was an early draft for "Hellfire," but lot of work still needed to be done. It was a hard decision but the people at Marvel including Simon Kinberg, Bryan Singer and Jeph Loeb agreed that it was for the best.

Walden also spoke about the untitled X-Men project that will replace "Hellfire" and said that though they would be introducing a new family, some old iconic characters might be included. The details remain scarce and the target release date has not been revealed.
