Patrick Stewart, the man behind the iconic character of Professor Charles Xavier in the "X-Men" franchise, says that his appearance in the upcoming "The Wolverine 3" film will be his last.
"The Wolverine 3" has commenced filming and will mark Stewart's seventh and last appearance as the iconic mutant Professor X. Speaking to ITV, the actor said that though it was hard to let go of his character, he is confirming that it's the end of the franchise for him; however, he hinted that he wasn't slamming the doors entirely shut as the good thing about a science fiction, quoting the actor, is that you can never say it's the end.
Professor X had died on screen in "X-Men: The Last Stand" when Jean Grey vaporized him in battle. Now that everyone knows he isn't officially dead since he will return to "The Wolverine 3," Stewart said that the audience will be looking at a different Professor Charles Xavier. He said that he would be nothing like the Professor everyone has seen in the past "X-Men" films.
Meanwhile, no official title has been confirmed for "The Wolverine 3" only speculations that it could be called "Weapon X" or "Wolverine: Weapon X." According to Slash Film, the sequel is inspired by Mark Millar's "Old Man Logan" which will likely be adapted in the film. Hugh Jackman wanted to explore on the quasi father and son relationship his character has with Stewart's character.
If Marvel grants Jackman's request in the storyline, could it be the different side of Professor X that Stewart was hinting about? Fans will just have to find out when "The Wolverine 3" hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
