AMD recently announced that Lenovo is finally joining its growing collective of companies that support the FreeSync technology. Lenovo unveiled the Y27f Curved Gaming Monitor, a 27-inch panel that costs $400.
One interesting fact about the Lenovo Y27F is despite the monitor's hefty price tag, it only supports a maximum of 1920 x 1080 resolution. This spec will no doubt deter gamers from picking up this monitor, especially those who are looking for Ultra HD gaming experience. On the other hand, the monitor does have a curved screen that provides a wider and better view which in turn can deliver immersive gaming experience.
The Lenovo Y27f Curved Gaming Monitor has a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz. Although some tech analysts are quite content with this feature, the fact that the monitor only supports a maximum of 1920 x 1080 resolution is enough to dissuade gamers.
The Lenovo Y27f boasts a four millisecond respond time, a 178-degree viewing angle, and contrast ratio of 3000:1. The panel has a single HDMI 1.4 port, one DisplayPort 1.2 connector, and a USB 3.0 hub. The display can be tilted on an angle between -5 and 30 degrees, and can be swiveled between -30 to 30 degrees.
The AMD FreeSync support is also one of the key selling point for the monitor. Although Lenovo has been in the gaming monitor industry for quite some time now, the Y27f is the company's first ever monitor to support the FreeSync technology. It is important to note that monitors support the FreeSync technology works well with AMD graphics cards.
In a statement acquired by Digital Trends, AMD said, "Since March of 2015, Radeon graphics and AMD FreeSync technology have used DisplayPort to enable smooth gaming on over 40 compatible monitors. In 2016, AMD aims to make smooth PC gaming even more accessible with a unique extension that enables AMD FreeSync over HMDI."
