Retrospective songs are topping online music charts in South Korea. Songs from the popular TV hit series "Reply 1988" and numbers by K-pop star Psy sweep the top spots.

As posted on THE KOREA TIMES, original soundtracks from TV series shows such as "Girl" by the rock band Hyukoh, Lee Juck's "Don't Worry," and December's "All I Can Give you is Love" are among the top five on the charts. Psy's "Daddy" and "Napal Baji" are also on the top list.

Retro boomed in South Korea in 2012. It began with the tvN's dramas "Reply 1997" and "Reply 1994".

Retro style is a style that is consciously derivative or imitative of trends, music, modes, fashions, or attitudes of the recent past. The style began in the 1970's when people tried to imitate the trends of the past eras.

The 1970s brought about a 1950s-'60s revival with "American Graffiti," "Grease," and "Happy Days." This lasted into the 1980s with the rockabilly revival. The 1950s greaser look greatly influenced the punk subculture.

Pop music is usually the origin of retro style. The 80's was seen as the revival of the 60's pop rock music while the 90's brought the revival of the 70's pop and disco music.

The revival of the past concepts made a great impact on Korean music as most of the top songs on music charts are in retro style. Having such results, retro music is, surely, making a name in South Korea.
