K-Pop girl group "Oh My Girl" was detained by airport authorities from entering the United States of America after their costumes and props were checked. Customs at Los Angeles International Airport held them for about 15 hours.
According to the news, the girls were travelling to America to shoot their album cover. They were expected to perform at a gala event in LA on that week too. However, a shocking claim came out as they were mistaken as sex workers as stated in Vulture. Both scheduled activities were cancelled due to the unpleasant incident.
WM Entertainment, the record company who manages the group, pointed out that there might have been visa issues involved. They were trying to seek legal assistance from a U.S. lawyer to investigate further on this matter.
The girls were home safe and sound last Dec. 11, Friday morning Korean time. It will still be a big question if they will continue their shoot in the US.
This K-Pop group is composed of eight members namely Hyo Jung, JinE, Mimi, YooA, SeungHee, JiHo, Binnie and Arin. The girls' ages range from 16 to 21. Their self-titled debut album was released on April 20, 2015. Though new to the K-Pop world, they are acknowledged and praised by their followers.
Netizens reacted to this issue and shared different insights as posted at Allkpop's forum. Some found the incident shocking and their hearts went to the girls. Others, on the other hand, understood that the US government was only following its airport security process.
