Chinese actor Qi Yuwu and Singaporean actress Joanne Peh said their "I do's" after dating for more than a year.
The ceremony, held at the Movenpick Heritage Hotel in Sentosa, Singapore on September 9, was a very private affair. The only ones present were the couple's family members and closest friends from their respective hometowns. Their own managers, producers and fellow artistes at MediaCorp were not invited.
In a statement released by Artiste Management Division, Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu's wedding banquet would be held next year.
The afternoon affair, officiated exactly at 3:30 PM local time last Tuesday, was so unexpected that it caught everyone by surprise. Word about it only got out because photos of the event got leaked on Instagram. The 'culprit' was no other than David Gan, celebrity hairstylist. The photo that captured the couple in front of the Merlion was captioned, "Another one of my daughters is now married."
Qi Yuwu's longtime friend, actress Priscelia Chan, said that she was one of the people who were taken by surprise by the couple's plans. She later said that to do something like that was a characteristic of Yuwu's and that they were a really private couple.
In an interview last April, Joanne said that her relationship with Yuwu was still very much in the honeymoon phase. She also remarked that they were not ready to take the plunge. However, she confessed that the were both contemplating on the idea of becoming and building a family together.
Before tying the knot, the couple knew each other for more than a decade, and were able to work with each other in various projects and dramas. They got together shortly after Joanne's split with American DJ and host Bobby Tonelli.
