Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently said that "Jumanji" would not be a reboot and took to social media to clear up the misconceptions for the upcoming film. He clarified that the film will be a continuation of the 90's classic which starred the late Robin Williams.
When news circled that Johnson and co-star Kevin Hart would be working on "Jumanji," many fans of the original classic assumed that it would be a reboot. However, fans assumed wrong as the actor took to Instagram to clarify that the film they were working on was a continuation of the 90's franchise. According to Comic Book, the actor shared that the new film did not intend to compete nor compare with the work that the late Robin Williams had done.
Johnson further shared that the respect he had for Williams was boundless and he intends to honor the actor's character, Alan Parrish, in the film. Jake Kasdan, the man behind "Sex Tape" and "Bad Teacher" will be directing the 2017 "Jumanji."
According to Screenrant, despite that the film will be a continuation, it does not mean that it would directly carry over the plot points of the 1995 film. Since the classic ending only left Williams and Hunt's character with the memory of what truly happened, it offers a clean slate for the upcoming sequel. There is also a possibility that the new film would acknowledge the events included in the classic, similar to how Jurassic World referenced the original Jurassic Park.
As of date, "Jumanji" has commenced filming and is slated to be released on July 28, 2017. Fans are hoping that the production would release more information regarding the film.
