"Fairy Tail" Chapter 498 is wintry and cold as two ice mages face off. Titled "Gray vs Invel," the chapter shows the two going to head to head, but will the former be able to defeat the latter?
Fans will recall that in Chapter 497, Natsu's flames got frozen and he was blaming Gray for it. However, Gray denied having had anything to do with the weird incident. As reported on Asia Stars News, Natsu, Juvia, and Lucy got frozen, and even Gray, who can stand cold more than anyone else, started to freeze. Invel then appeared, apparently confident that he cannot be defeated.
Now, in "Fairy Tail" Chapter 498, Gray needs to defeat the enemy. He starts by making a shield and then casts Ice Make Ice Impact. However, Invel just stops it with his hand, realizes that Gray uses ice molding magic, then freezes and shatters Gray's attack.
Invel then says that he does not make toys out of ice; instead, he is purest of all ice mages and he uses the very essence of ice to freeze everything. When he says that Gray's ability is nowhere near his, the Fairy Tail mage shows his arm and reveals the Demon Slayer magic he inherited from his father.
Invel is surprised at his demon long sword. But upon realizing what he is up against, he makes a counterattack and sends a blizzard far and wide. Gray feels the cold, and Invel tells him that he has what it takes to stand beside him. He adds that Gray's heart is slowly being tainted by darkness and it's about to be released into the world. He also explains that black magic comes from the power of darkness, but that darkness is neither good or bad.
Gray would not hear of it but says that if his family is on the line, he'd be willing to be as dark as needed. He is surprised when Natsu cheers him on. Apparently, Natsu is able to melt the ice that froze him and the two girls, and this impresses Invel.
Before they could join forces to fight against Invel, however, the giant girl Brandish takes Natsu, Lucy, and Happy away, leaving Gray and Juvia behind. All of a sudden, Invel puts magic collars around the latter two, connected by a chain, which he says makes people his puppets.
He orders them to fight each other, and the only way to remove the chain is when either one dies. If Gray kills a friend, his darkness will awaken. He also tells himself that it is Gray who will defeat E.N.D. and not his majesty.
Juvia, of course, would not think about harming Gray, but how will the two get out of this very tight situation? According to Hall of Fame Magazine, the next chapter will show Juvia refusing to follow the order and trying to hurt herself with her water magic. Gray, however, stops her and calls her "stupid" for doing such a thing. She inadvertently uses her water lock magic on him. Gray is able to break free. The chain shatters because Juvia's heart is no longer beating.
Will Juvia really die? Fans will find out in "Fairy Tail" Chapter 499.
