Natalie Portman recalls how the late Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall did not like her when she directed her film, "Eve," back in 2008. However, the "Black Swan" actress expressed her admiration for the legend during the promotion of her directorial debut, "A Tale of Love and Darkness," and said that she helped build her career as a director.
During a recent interview for her directorial debut, "A Tale of Love and Darkness," Portman recalled that Bacall, who died in 2014, was unimpressed by her skills as a director. She revealed via US Weekly that the Hollywood legend did not like her when she directed her film "Eve." The late legend thought that Portman was indecisive and the actress admitted that it took a while before she realized that what Bacall saw was someone who had a hard time saying what she wanted.
Portman was 26 years old when she first directed "Eve," a seventeen minute short comedy which was aired during the 2008 Venice Film Festival. It also received a limited release at Cannes in the year 2015. Behind the success of her film, Cinema Blend reported how the actress recalled the many struggles she faced and how Bacall, despite her criticisms, was able to help her go through it. She recalled how Bacall called her out because she couldn't tolerate an indecisive director. She also admitted that at a young age, she found it difficult to verbalize what she wanted and how to stand as a boss.
Now, Portman is busy promoting her new drama entitled "A Tale of Love and Darkness." The film, which she considers her passion project, marks her comeback in the directorial chair.
