"Grey's Anatomy" has plotted an explosive emotional storyline in Season 13. The scoop was revealed by series star Caterina Scorsone in a report.
When we last tuned in on "Grey's Anatomy," Owen and Amelia tied the knot, Alex and Jo's relationship reached a shaky ground and a love triangle involving Meredith and Maggie began to take shape. According to Scorsone, the Season 13 premiere will pick up immediately after these events and will find the characters scrambling as a new, deeply emotional arc unfolds. But this new trajectory has nothing to do with Amelia and Owen's relationship, the actress said.
"Immediately on the tail of Amelia and Owen's wedding, there's a big explosive drama that's happening right away," Scorsone told The Hollywood Reporter.
"On Grey's Anatomy it could be a literal explosion, but in this case, it's emotionally explosive. It's going to be a key story this year that a lot of people are going to be interested in."
Exploring controversial issues is not uncommon for "Grey's Anatomy." In the past seasons, the medical drama has tackled multiple storylines which delve on the LGBT community, rape cases, and abortion among others. As the series continues in Season 13, it will be another exciting run of episodes to see the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial face the impending ordeal.
Apart from this emotionally-driven arc, TV Guide reported that the original characters of "Grey's Anatomy" and their stories will also be highlighted in Season 13. According to series star Kelly McCreary, viewers will be spending more time with Meredith, Alex, Bailey and Richard as new episodes roll-out this fall. It is yet to be determined if Katherine Heigl will return as fan-favorite character, Dr. Izzie Stevens.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8PM on ABC.
