Milwaukee Bucks is rumored to discuss a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. They will send center/power forward Greg Monroe to Brooklyn in exchange for Brook Lopez. Nevertheless, the trade may look trivial to Nets.
According to Inquisitr, NBA trade rumors have been rampant with Milwaukee Bucks power forward/center Greg Monroe will be dealt this summer. Monroe has been on the trading block in Bucks for some time, but this is the first time for Lopez.
Milwaukee is keen on trading Monroe to play smaller and faster basketball. This type of play has become trend in the NBA since Golden State Warriors won the 2015 NBA championship. Monroe's bulky figure is not a perfect fit to run such fast offense, so Bucks looks forward to trade him to find the suitable center.
Lopez is expected to be the right center for the system. However, he has been a central figure for Brooklyn Nets since he was drafted in 2008. If both team agree on the trade, Lopez will reunite with his former teammate and coach in Nets, Jason Kidd.
Lopez is a center whose strengths don't align with what a majority of NBA teams need from the center position, according to RealGM. NBA teams tend to play fast offense nowadays. Dominated by fast guards and lean forwards.
In order to support the team, center must have agility and strength to protect the rim and rebound in defense, and speed to support offense. Nevertheless, Kidd, who is now Milwaukee Bucks' head coach seems to know a way to unlock hidden potential in Lopez. Kidd was Lopez's teammate for one season in his rookie year, and his coach in 2013-2014 season.
Lopez record was not good as he missed 19 games due to injury in the last two seasons. This diminish his Player's Efficiency Rating (PER) as he only made in 18th position. He also finished in 20th position for points per game with 20.6 and only made 7.8 rebound per game.
Monroe statistics is not better than Lopez. He finished 2015-2016 season with a lower record than Lopez. He had 15.3 PPG and 8.8 rebounds per game. Therefore trading Lopez for Monroe seem disadvantageous for Brooklyn Nets.
