Now that the impressive Surface Pro 4 is nearing its on-year anniversary, rumors of a Surface Pro 5 release date has started floating in the internet. While Microsoft does have a sequel in the works, the hopes that it would be released this year is not likely.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has sold nearly 10 times more than its sibling, the Surface Book, since it release on 2015. The success has made the release of its successor, the Surface Pro 5, more exciting to its users. There are news about a sequel in the works, but details are not clear yet and the company has not announced its official release date.

Release Date

Earlier this year, Microsoft has announced the delay of Microsoft 10's major Redstone update. The Tech Radar reported that the company has pushed its release to correspond with a new hardware launch, following the lineup that would purportedly consist of the Surface Book 2, the Surface 5 Pro, the yet to be confirmed Surface Phone and a new Surface all-in-one PC.

Intel has also announced that its 14-nanometer Kaby Lake, in which the Surface Pro 5 is reported to utilize, will not come out until the tail-end of 2016. Given the history that the company has done throughout its Surface launches, it seems likely that they would allot more time to become familiar with the Kaby Lake architecture.

Surface Pro 5 Price and Features

Aside from the news that the new Surface Pro 5 will house Intel's seventh-gen processor, Kaby Lake, Microsoft has kept other details under wraps. However, the Tech Times has reported that the processor will be paired with a 16 GB RAM, making it a hybrid tablet built for multitasking functions.

Rumors are also rife that the Surface Pro 5 will sport a 12.3-inch PixelSense display, and may also run on the Windows 10 Redstone update.

In terms of the price, the non 4K UHD variant of the Surface Pro 5 is presumed to start from a base average of $899, while the top-end 4k UHD variant is priced at $1,599.
