The Washington Wizards could pursue free agent point guard Kendall Marshall before the new season begins after he was waived by the Utah Jazz following a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 25-year-old former North Carolina standout suited up in 30 games for Sixers head coach Brett Brown last season and had averaged 3.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in only 13.3 minutes per night. He shot below 40 percent from the field and the three-point area and had only hit less than 70 percent of his free throws, which rumored to have prompted Philly to trade him to the Utah Jazz for practically nothing.

Marshall was sent to Utah in exchange for center Tibor Pleiss, two future second-round selections, and cash considerations before the Jazz immediately released him upon acquisition, which meant that the club is just looking for a salary dump.

Now, the former Los Angeles Laker and Milwaukee Buck is an unrestricted free agent and CSN Mid-Atlantic reported that the Wizards "could possibly seek to add a backup point guard" to mitigate the current absence of starting floor general John Wall, who is still recovering from two knee surgeries made in the offseason.

Marshall had been a journeyman during his so far four-year NBA career, starting out with the Phoenix Suns as a rookie when they drafted him 13th overall in 2012 before being traded to the Wizards in October 2013 and then subsequently released.

He then joined the then injury-ravaged Lakers in December of 2013, where he was the sixth different player to start at the number one guard position during that season.

Marshall was also waived by Los Angeles and claimed by Milwaukee in the summer of 2014 where his season ended abruptly in January 2015 after suffering from a torn ACL in his right knee.

In February of that same year, he was traded back to the Suns in a three-way deal that involved Philadelphia, but he was waived two days later together with John Salmons.

The Sixers then signed him in September of last year before the trade with the Jazz and eventual release this month.

Fansided noted that it was the third time that "Marshall was traded for and subsequently released", which was the case during his spell with the Wizards and second stint with the Suns.
