When "The Vampire Diaries" returns for Season 8, viewers will find Damon being controlled by a yet-to-be known evil character.
Previewing what's ahead, executive producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly that the fan-favorite character will find himself being of service to an evil "who has an opinion on what should happen to people who do bad things." Additionally, Plec teased that fans will see Damon being a minion to this unknown creature; and they have to tune-in in the new episodes to learn the reason and the identity of Damon's tormentor.
At Comic Con, it was revealed by the cast that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will delve on mind control. With the latest reveal of Damon's evil master, it can be speculated that the two are likely connected. Ian Somerhalder, for his part, admitted that the storyline caught his attention.
"The mind control thing is interesting, because you're used to seeing these characters exert that power onto someone else, so when you see them ultimately in this realm where they have no control over their actions," the actor told Entertainment Weekly in July.
"It's that conflict and that struggle we're looking for, which is truly a gem for us to play."
In addition to Damon's evil-driven arc, the writers have plotted "The Vampire Diaries" to go back to its roots in Season 8. The final season will also bring back familiar characters from the past seasons. With regards to Nina Dobrev's Elena, it has been reported that producers are still in talks with the actress about her potential return.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 premieres on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8PM on the CW.
