Massive users of Surface Pro 3 have been complaining since May about the device's horrible battery life. Hybrids drain in a matter of an hour or two, which is considerably too short for a supposedly portable product. Microsoft has announced an update on how to fix the issue for the detachable PC.
Microsoft acknowledges those who purchased Surface Pro 3 for an out-of-warranty exchange for this concern might get refunded; however, no information has been disclosed. The tech behemoth will get back to those Surface Pro 3 purchasers in a month from the release date of the patch which was August 29, as reported by Laptop.
The update given will correct the firmware component's logic that serves as the Surface Pro 3 battery "fuel gauge". This, in turn, will correctly report the definite battery capacity of the device. This enables the Surface Pro 3 to leverage once again the approximate the battery's peak charge.
According to The Verge, changes may not effect as soon as possible. The company said that problem will "self-correct over the next several charge and discharge cycles," meaning that the battery should be run down a few times before it distinguishes full charge again.
Microsoft has provided instructions on how to fix a Windows 10 Surface Pro 3's weak battery life. The device should be connected directly to the AC power source with the use of the standard power that comes along with the device. Never use the Surface Docking System and disable any USB devices including external monitors.
Hover over the taskbar icon to check if Windows will show a battery charge of 40%. Hit Start, followed by Settings and then click Update & Security. Afterward, hit Windows Update and then Check for updates. After doing so, Hit Install which is beside to "System Firmware Update - 8/29/2016" and check the instructions.
Click Restart and after the system restarts, a black screen will prompt with the Surface logo along with a message referencing a firmware update application. After Surface boots to Windows, restart it again.
Another update was provided to remedy a Windows 8.1 operating system. The step-by-step instructions are almost the same, however, after checking if the battery has 40% charge, you need to swipe in from the screen's right border to choose Settings and then Change PC settings. Next is to choose Windows Update followed by Check now. Select Install beside "System Firmware Update - 8/29/2016" and follow the rest of the instructions which is the same with Windows 10.
Once the overhaul is adapted to a Surface Pro 3, the reported full charge will self-correct with the next several charges as well as discharge cycles. The devices that once had the issues will no longer experience it and are now able to operate on battery.
