Early August this year, China's General Office of Broadcasting and Television declared a set of guidelines for local broadcasters to abide, prohibiting Korean actors and groups from having activities in any Chinese TV shows. Korean concerts with more than 10,000 fans are also not allowed.
Hence, Korean entertainment agencies were forced to cancel their artists' guesting in several Chinese TV shows. Chinese TV stations and companies had already cramped Korean superstars' appearances and has no plan in broadcasting any Korean shows for the mean time.
"Large TV stations in China are taking actions to ban Hallyu stars from appearing on their reality show," an industry source told Sport Chosun as cited by The Kpop Herald. "Furthermore, contract with the Hallyu stars are being nullified."
This new guidelines anticipates to vehemently affect Korean celebrities and K-pop idols scheduled concerts, endorsement, fan meeting event in China. The aggravated tension over Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in the Sino-Korean relationship is to blame for the statewide ban.
