Rumors are out that English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur had demanded €40 million from VfL Wolfsburg if they want the services of South Korean winger Son Heung-min and the Bundesliga side will reportedly prepare it by January.

Caught Offside reported that Wolfsburg remained keen on signing the 24-year-old winger "despite missing out in the summer transfer window" and will continue their pursuit in the January window.

Son was acquired by the Spurs last summer from German club Bayer Leverkusen for a €30 million transfer fee. The South Korea international was expected to be a key figure in Tottenham's attack last season, but after being limited to only 13 starts in 28 English top flight appearances, he managed to score only four goals throughout the term.

He scored only eight times in a total of 42 games in all competitions last term and so head coach Mauricio Pochettino is said to be thinking about selling him back to Germany after Die Wölfe had expressed interest.

The Wolves had reportedly submitted a €32 million to Tottenham during the recent window's deadline day, but it was rejected by the English club as they want €8 million more for Son's release.

Head coach Dieter Hecking's side will have another chance in the New Year and as the club is said to be willing to concede to the Spurs' demands.

However, SkySports indicated that the 6-foot-2 Gangwon, South Korea native is eager to stay at the White Hart Lane and had even decided to forfeit a stint with his national team in the ongoing 2018 AFC World Cup qualifying tournament "in a bid to kickstart his Tottenham career".

The report noted that Son's "hopes of becoming a regular starter in his second season have not been helped by a lengthy summer of international duty" and so he decided to altogether skip joining the Taegeuk Warriors in their ongoing bid to qualify to the 2018 Russia competitions.

Son was not able to feature for the Spurs in their first two Premier League matches this term as he was suited up for South Korea in the Rio Olympics. After returning from his Olympic duty, Pochettino then left him on the bench during the team's 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the end of August.
