Justin Hartley confirms his exit in CBS' "The Young and the Restless" soap and leaves his role of Adam Newman behind. There are speculations that he is leaving the show due to his new primetime gig on the upcoming NBC series "This is Us."
According to TV Line, Hartley officially confirmed in a Facebook post that his two-year stint on Y&R has come to an end. The news came out after the aired episodes in the wake of Newman' presumed death and two weeks ahead of the premiere of Hartley's buzzy new NBC drama "This is Us," allowing him to exit without spoiling the storyline.
On Hartley's Facebook page, he addressed his letter to his wonderful fans of Y&R. He admitted that he has been quiet for many weeks in order not to spoil Newman's death for the fans. He is relieved to be able to write his letter. He emphasized that his letter is not a goodbye letter. He said that he will not bid goodbye to the soap either. He felt that a thank you note is more important to write.
Hartley thanked his fans for helping him enjoy his time on Y&R. He continued that his fans have not gotten rid him even if he leaves the show. He is thrilled and proud to join his new series "This is Us." He will play as the handsome Kevin who is a successful TV actor and bored in his bachelor life. The new series is set to premiere on Sept. 20 on NBC.
Hartley joined Y&R in August 2014 and took the role of Newman, succeeding the role from Michael Muhney. He and his Y&R co-star Chrishell Stause just got recently engaged, Just Jared reported. The couple announced the news on Stause' Instagram account, showing a photo of her engagement ring. Stause plays the role of Bethany Bryant in the soap.
There is still no information if "The Young and the Restless" will kill Hartley's character for good or if a recast will happen in the near future. However, the show will still continue to air from Monday to Friday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
