During the Sept. 7 Apple event, devices are expected to be presented or launched but only two appeared, the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2 - no iPad mini Pro or MacBook Air. Predictions from people with the knowledge said it is likely that the MacBook Air range will be diminished and be replaced by Retina MacBook  instead.

MacBook lovers should not be discouraged since there is another event for Apple coming next month. Tech experts believe that there will be a revelation of a new tablet and laptop happening with Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicting that a fourth quarter release would be possible.

It was in October 2014 since the last time Apple held an event when it announced the iPad Air 2 and its newest iMac. The iPad Pro with a 9.7-inch display along with the redesigned MacBook got revealed in March. It is doubtful that a new version of 9.7-inch or 12.9 inches will be unveiled this year. However, it is possible that an iPad Air 3 and iPad mini 5 will show up, the Mirror reported.

When the MacBook was updated in March, people expected that the company will provide the laptop a Retina display. Rather, it introduced a brand new line of MacBook that is super-slim and ultra-lightweight with a high-resolution display. If pointing out to a 2016 update where more RAM was added to the basic 13-inch model, it could be that MacBook Air will no longer be enhanced with the Retina display.

Apple released new MacBooks and updated the MacBook Air in April, however, updates regarding MacBook Air is dismaying. As the MacBook has been powerfully boosted with a new color in Rose Gold, the 13-inch MacBook Air on the other hand, just got a new 8GB aboard the memory standard.

If the lineup will not get discontinued, it is concluded that the company will settle to its annual upgrade cycle and thus release the 2017 MacBook Air sometime early next year, which is likely March to May. It's also probable that an update to the line will be announced in the fourth quarter of this year, Macworld reported.

Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to a query regarding rumors that the company is finally discontinuing the Mac line. He responded in the email saying, "I love the Mac and we are very committed to it. Stay tuned."

According to Tech Blogger Jack March, a source stated that the phone company is near to totally dumping the Air brand, along with the MacBook Air and iPad Air products on its roster.

In the long term, it's quite probable that the MacBook Air domain will cease and will be replaced by a Retina MacBook range in due course at an affordable price.
