Gemma Arterton and Dominic Cooper reunite and are set to star in Dominic Savage's drama "The Escape." The film will be introduced to buyers at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival by Independent.
According to Variety, the British duo Arterton and Cooper will star in "The Escape" drama about a woman who abandons her husband and children. Arterton said at the Toronto International Film Festival 2016 event that the film will be an exploration of marriage and motherhood. She hinted that it will be more focusing on the woman's point of view, making it extremely personal. She is excited to begin shooting it because of the surrounding people she trusts and understands the intention of the film. She would like to dig deep and find the truth.
"Freefall" director Savage said in a statement that he is excited to be collaborating with Arterton and Cooper on "The Escape," The Hollywood Reporter reported. He tipped that the film will be a journey of truth and revelation that tells the important story of motherhood, marriage, responsibility, and freedom.
Managing director Andrew Orr from Independent said that "The Escape" deals with a topic that is still very much taboo in the society nowadays. He added that the character loves her children but does not achieve fulfillment by the role of being a mother.
"London Spy" Guy Heeley for Shoebox Films is the producer. British upstart Lorton is founded by Julian Bird and is financing and taking U.K. rights. "Free Fire" Laurie Rose is the director of photography. "The Woman in the Fifth" David Charap is the editor. "A Monster Calls" Shaheen Baig is the casting director. "The Boy in Striped Pajamas" Liza Bracey will be designing the costumes.
Arterton is represented by Independent and CAA. She stars in Toronto International Film Festival entry "Their Finest." Cooper is represented by Markham, Froggatt & Irwin, and CAA. He did major roles in "Warcraft" and AMC's "Preacher." The British duo teamed up on "Tamara Drewe" back in 2010.
The production team has worked on the script of "The Escape" for several months. The shooting is scheduled for October in the U.K. and France.
