Comedy group Broken Lizard has officially started filming the sequel to cult comedy film "Super Troopers 2." Aside from the comedy group, who plays the inept yet gleeful state troopers, Brian Cox will also return as Captain O'Hagan. The film has also signed Rob Lowe who will play a key figure of the film.

The upcoming film's plot is still unknown but a few details have emerged about the actors appearing on the film as well as their roles. Deadline reported that Lowe is cast as Guy Le Franc. He'll most likely clash horns with the state troopers since he'll play the part of a Canadian Mayor known for his professional hockey career.

Along with Lowe, Emmanuelle Chriqui ("You Don't Mess with the Zohan," "Entourage") is also set to join the cast as Genevieve Aubois. Country singer Willie Nelson will also make a cameo on the upcoming film. Broken Lizard tweeted a photo in their full uniform along Nelson with the caption ""Hey @willienelson... 'You wanna know why we pulled you over?'"

It's a long time coming for Broken Lizard to bring back the much loved and laughed at state troopers since their 2001 film "Super Troopers" is often regarded as a cult movie classic. The sequel came to fruition after an extremely successful funding campaign through Indiegogo. Their initial target was only $2 million but more than doubled their target as they reached $4.5 million which was also a record for the crowd funding website.

"Super Troopers" is not the only comedy film project of Broken Lizard. They are also the group behind the beer drinking themed movie "Beerfest", the slasher/beach movie "Club Dredd" and "Slammin' Salmon" which was set in a restaurant featuring the late Michael Clarke Duncan ("The Green Mile").

Just like its plot, the official release date of the sequel is still unknown. The comedy troupe has recently announced their first day of filming and they constantly update the celebrity cast, news about the film and even pictures on who could make a cameo. The sequel is directed by one of the Broken Lizard members, Jay Chandrasekhar.
