Fans have been worried, raising a question on what is going on with "The Incredibles" sequel. In accordance with the rumored release date of June 29, 2019, writer and director Brad Bird confirmed that the project is alive and well and on its way.
Considering on how the first movie was a huge success, "The Incredibles 2" would probably require a lot more effort in creating a better story and animation to top the first movie. Entertainment Weekly reported that the director wouldn't want to reveal much about the movie until ready, claiming that he "[doesn't] like unwrapping presents before Christmas" when asked about the movie.
He did share about his excitement about the sequel that's being under development, stating that it's taking in "some new directions." Of course, with introducing new elements to the franchise, Bird did reassure fans that the essence of the first movie will remain. "It's repeating yourself, without repeating yourself," explained the director.
In an earlier interview with IGN last year, Bird initially expressed his dislike of having a sequel after his dilemma of having one or not. He was not really keen on letting a successful movie have a follow-up.
However, after more than a decade since the first movie, Bird has been entertaining some ideas about a possible sequel of "The Incredibles." These previous ideas, though, didn't make the cut, often leaving the director out looking for more.
Eventually, after a lot of conceptualizing, he managed to find something that would work. Without revealing too much, the director did mention that "Incredibles 2" will be more character-driven than just action and flurry of superpowers.
As mentioned above, "The Incredibles 2" is rumored for release on June 29, 2019. Until then, fans will just have to sit and wait.
