The Los Angeles Police Department detective who was investigating rape charges against NBA star Derrick Rose died on Wednesday. At the trial, Rose testified that NBA advices its players to take home used condoms after sex.

Officers found LAPD detective Nadine Hernandez, 44 with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Hernandez was transported to a hospital here she died, LA Times reported.

Whittier police said that the incident is being investigated as suicide because there are no signs of foul play. The police also said that at this point, there are no indications that the incident had any connection to the Derrick Rose case.

Rose on the other hand testified at the trial that NBA advices its players to take home their condoms after one-night stands so that they leave no trace. Two NBA sources reportedly confirms Rose's testimony in his civil rape trial case, New York Post reported.

Rose said that he pocketed his condom after having a consensual roup sex with two other men and a woman in 2013. The woman suing the NBA star for $21.3 million in damages claims that Rose and his cohorts drugged and gang-raped her.

The legal representative of the woman identified only as Jane Doe suggested in open court that Rose kept the condom because he did not want anyone to know he was there. Rose argued that he pocketed it because he was trained to do so by the NBA.

"In my profession they teach us to make sure you get the condom if you can't flush it," he said.
