‘Big Hero 6’ Film Cast coming back for the upcoming Animated Series; Marvel’s Stan Lee to be series regular: Disney XD

After the 2014 hit animated superhero movie "Big Hero 6" amazed fans for its stellar animation and story, they begin to wonder: "Will there ever be a sequel?" The answer is a resounding "YES" as the Disney animated action film will continue on not just a one-time kind of show, but a whole series itself by Disney XD.

The returning cast of "Big Hero 6" animated series

A good number of actors from the 2014 film of "Big Hero 6" will be reprising their roles for the animated series, according to Polygon. Ryan Potter will be returning as Hiro, while Scott Adsit is back as the lovable Baymax; Maya Rudolph will be getting her mom's shoes on as Aunt Cass and Jamie Chung as the tough, athletic and stoic Go Go; Alan Tudyk also returns as the entrepreneur Alistair Krei and Genesis Rodriguez as the brainy and cheerful Honey Lemon, while David Shaughnessy reprises his as Fred's butler Heathcliff.

Actors for the characters Fred and Wasabi being replaced in the "Big Hero 6" animated series

Unfortunately, TJ Miller won't be returning to voice the rich eccentric fanboy Fred in the original. Instead, the actor will be replaced by "Saturday Night Live's" Brooks Whelan. Damon Wayans Jr. will also not be returning as the neurotic Wasabi, being replaced by "The Walking Dead's" Khary Payton.

Marvel legend Stan Lee to voice Fred's dad in the "Big Hero 6" animated series

One notable cast member in the series will be the comic book legend himself, Stan Lee, who'll play the role of Fred's father. (A bit of SPOILERS here) For those who didn't get to watch the movie in its entirety (from start to the end of the credits), Fred's father was revealed briefly in a family portrait as Fred toured his friends around his wealthy estate. In the post-credits scene, Fred opened a secret sanctum that revealed his father to be a superhero in secret before the big man himself showing up behind him speaking in Stan Lee's voice.

"Big Hero 6" series to feature a sizable guest cast

The show will be introducing characters that have guest stars voicing them, according to IGN. These include Jenifer Lewis as Professor Granville, Andrew Scott as Obake, Andy Richter as Globby, Diedrich Bader as Bluff Dunder, Susan Sullivan as Fred's mother, Sean Giambrone as Richardson Mole, John Ross Bowie as Mel, and Haley Tju as Karmi.

A brief concept of the "Big Hero 6" series

Disney mentioned that the "Big Hero 6" animated series will follow after the events of the 2014 film. Hiro the 14-year-old tech genius-turned-hero and his partner the plushy yet tough Baymax (and also along with his other friends) will be protecting the city of San Fransokyo (and possibly the rest of the world) from a variety of villains of the scientific and technological nature. Along with his task of being a hero, Hiro will also have to face another challenge in his life: school life in the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology.

Officially termed as "Big Hero 6: The Animated Series," the show will air on Disney XD around 2017.
