The highly-buzzed spinoff movie of DC's Harley Quinn and Birds of Prey now has a scriptwriter attached to pen the female superhero-centered pic.

Warner Bros has announced the untitled project early this year, with months ahead from the official release of "Suicide Squad" in theaters. Details about the spinoff are still being kept under wraps, but it was reported back in May that it will heavily focus on Harley Quinn and other female superheroes and villains from the DC comics. Actress Margot Robbie, who portrayed the fan-favorite Quinn, will reprise her role and is also producing the offshoot.

As for the upcoming film's latest development, it has been reported by The Wrap that Warner Bros Studios now has found the scriptwriter to pen the spinoff. She is Christina Hodson, one of Hollywood's sought after screenplay writers today. Hodson previously worked on the upcoming thriller, "Shut In" starring Naomi Watts and Jacob Tremblay. The scribe is also set to pen the script for the "Transformers" spinoff, Bumblebee with "The Walking Dead" creator/executive producer Robert Kirkman.

Hodson's other credits include "Unforgettable," an erotic thriller starring Katherine Heigl and Rosario Dawson and the reboot of "The Fugitive," an adaptation of the Japanese crime novel "Out." The latter project is being eyed as a potential TV series to be released on AMC.

Warner Bros, for their part, has not yet released a comment confirming Hodson's involvement with the project.

Although there's still no word from the studio, it is likely that Hodson is already locked in to board the spinoff. Fans of the DC universe might just have to wait a little bit longer for new announcements to arrive. In this case, official confirmation from the producers is expected to emerge shortly.
