Chinese may no longer watch Korean dramas, variety shows and movies as reports claimed authorities in China reportedly ordered to bar the broadcasting of Korean programs in the country.

Allkpop reported Chinese shows that carry the Korean variety show formats will still be allowed in China. However, programs that are originally produced by Korean companies will be banned from the country.

Previously, Yoo In Na was filming the Chinese rendition of "Queen Inhyun's Man," however, the Korean actress bow out from her role before the filming even concluded.

Reports claimed the possible reason for the banning of Korean programs in China is the decision of South Korea and United States to deploy Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD).

THAAD is a missile defense system that could be used against the nuclear weapons of North Korea. Following the announcement of South Korea and US, China has been vocal about its opposition on the idea, stating that the location of the missile defense system is near their borders.

As a retort, South Korea said THAAD will only be used defensively to counter the attacks of North Korea. Reports claimed the missile defense system will be deployed next year.

Prior to this, a state-backed network reported China's broadcast regulator has prohibited Korean programs in the country starting Sept. 1, Variety reported. However, sources claimed the report is fake.

Aside from banning Korean programs in China, Chinese-Korean collaborations are to be prohibited in the country, reports said. The act is said to be part of China's regulatory measure after the decision of South Korea and US on THAAD.
