The Game Awards recently released a nominee list for various categories including a Best Fan Creation award.

The list originally included "Pokemon Uranium", and "Another Metroid 2 Remake" (AM2R) as part of the nominees but both have been removed a week later. Now the list only has "Brutal Doom 64" and the "Elder Scrolls: Skyrim" mod "Enderal: The Shards of the Order". "Pokemon Uranium" is a fan project that is heavily based on the original Game Boy Pokemon games while "AM2R" takes a lot of inspiration from the Metroid series.

Both games have had problems just after their release. The games were offered for free, and "AM2R" received a cease and desist letter from Nintendo a few weeks after its release which stopped the game from being directly downloaded. "Pokemon Uranium" also received the same letter less than a week after its official release. Both games were said to have been years in the making and their sudden removal from the Game Awards list has numerous media outlets trying to get statements from Nintendo.

According to another report, "Pokemon Uranium" took down the download button for the game to avoid any legal action. However, this has not stopped the game from being circulated by those who have already downloaded it. The game can be found in various sites and is even available through torrents. The developers have mentioned that they will continue to update the game for those who have downloaded and download numbers have reportedly reached 1.5 million. The fan made Pokemon game is said to be very challenging with strategy a priority over the charm of collecting creatures. It also features an entirely new region with its own set of Pokemon separate from any of Nintendo's official content.

Meanwhile, the Game Awards nominations continue, with winners planned to be announced on December 1 during a livestream event. Other categories in the Game Awards include Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and much more.
