"My Sassy Girl" couple Jun Ji Hyun and Cha Tae Hyun meet once again on SBS' "The Legend of the Blue Sea." Inspired by a classic Joseon legend, the new SBS drama tells the story of love between the son of a noble Joseon family and the last mermaid on earth.
On the Nov.24 episode of the new SBS drama, Cha Tae Hyun made a special cameo appearance as a con-artist who tries to pull one over on Jun, the last mermaid on earth, Allkpop reported. The two had a sensational chemistry in their hit movie, "My Sassy Girl" in 2001.
In the Episode 4 of "The Legend of the Blue Sea," Cha tries to fool Jun but fails due to the fact that she doesn't know how to read. Cha then wailed in frustration.
It has been fifteen years since the two is seen together in a film. Back in 2001, their movie "My Sassy Girl" became a mega blockbuster hit in Asia to the point where it was drawing comparisons to "Titanic."
In 2008, an American remake starring Jesse Bradford and Elisha Cuthbert, directed by Yann Samuell was released. In the same year, the Japanese adaptation of the movie started broadcasting in Japan.
In a report by Movie Douban, a sequel "My New Sassy Girl" was released in South Korea and China early this year. The sequel stars Cha and his new love interest in the movie Victoria Song.
"My New Sassy Girl" depicts Cha's difficulty in forgetting The Girl (Jun) from "My Sassy Girl (2001). He then reunites with his childhood sweetheart Sassy (Song), an elementary schoolmate from China who was often teased due to her broken Hangul.
