Universal has released a teaser for the upcoming "Mummy" film starring Tom Cruise along with a poster.

"The Mummy" will be coming out from Universal Studio's lineup of film, but, fear not, it's not another title to the movie series directed by Stephen Sommers or a follow up to the mediocre "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," the third film in the entire franchise. Fortunately, it's a reboot and it looks menacingly good.

Speaking of the teaser which lasted for 15 seconds, it showed a whole lineup of characters, including Tom Cruise as the Nick Morton, whose exact role hasn't been defined yet. Russell Crowe was shown briefly in the teaser trailer as well. He'll play as Doctor Henry Jekyll, which may hint at the inevitable possibility that he'll be in the upcoming Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe with nods to author Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novella "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde."

The teaser also showed how powerful the Mummy is, who is now female being played as "Star Trek Beyond" actress Sofia Boutella, according to recent reports by IGN. The villain, who's also called Ahmanet, the evil ancient queen, was woken up from her crypt deep underground when a team of paramilitary archaeologists go deep in the desert. It's up to Tom Cruise's character and his team to race around the globe and stop the Mummy from causing chaos in the world.

"The Mummy" reboot is set in the modern times compared to the 1930-40s setting of the previous films that starred Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz, according to reports

The rest of the cast include "New Girl" and "Jurassic Park" star Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance, who's known for his roles in movies like "The Hunt for Red October" and the more recent "The People Vs O.J. Simpson."
