"This Is Us" will introduce a new character in the form of "The Walking Dead" actress Alexandra Breckenridge.
As first reported by TV Line, Breckenridge has been cast on the tear-jerker series as a character named Sophie. "This Is Us" will introduce Sophie in an upcoming episode as an old friend of Kate from her childhood days. The actress is set to appear on a recurring basis in the remaining episodes of the first season.
When viewers last tuned-in on "This Is Us," Kate has made a decision to go under the knife for a weight loss surgery. While Kevin is totally not on board, Kate asked for her twin brother's support for her to be able to overcome her fears. It is yet to be determined if Kate will push through with the surgery given that she still hasn't asked her mother's advice about it.
Breckenridge casting on "This Is Us" as one of Kate's childhood pals will give Kate's storyline an additional layer about her past. Viewers have already saw a part of her growing up inside the Pearson household, but her life from a friend's perspective is still in the dark. To this end, the introduction of an old friend will definitely shed some light on that angle.
As to what happens next, viewers will see the Pearson family celebrating Christmas for the first time. However, there will be an unexpected medical emergency.
As revealed in the plot synopsis, the Pearsons will "find themselves at the hospital on Christmas Eve after little Kate comes down with appendicitis. When they run into Dr. K, who is alone at the hospital, they realize they need to be there for him as much as he was once there for them."
An all new episode of "This Is Us" titled "Last Christmas" airs on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 9PM on NBC.
