The world of "Star Wars" continues this year with an upcoming release of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." While the anticipation of a stand-alone prequel hits fever pitch, the title of next year's sequel could have been revealed in the latest document filed by Lucas Films in Europe.
Possible Title for Episode VIII
"Star Wars: Episode VIII" may finally have a definitive title thanks to trademark filing by Lucas Films. AVS Forum, Lucas Films recently filed to trademark the phrase "Star Wars Force of Destiny." The trademark was filed in Europe and it covers nearly every merchandise a production company could think of (toys, office supplies, etc.) including a film.
While it is just another phrase and changes is still a possibility, the fact that the company behind the extremely successful sci-fi series started pushing documents with an unrelated title is a curious move. Uproxx also points to the fact that the sequel has a tentative release of December 15, 2017 which means official information about the film is expected to drop real soon.
Possible Plot, Spoilers
The filed trademark may just be a phrase but it does spur some speculations as to what it really means. Everyone knows that Rey has finally located Luke Skywalker and his role in the upcoming sequel is going to be a lot bigger than a cameo. Destiny may not be attributed to Skywalker but to the female protagonist Rey.
Even though Rey has very much commanded the entire film, she is still a mysterious character in terms of her background. She also has the force but no one knows why. She could be related to Skywalker but it is a big stretch that he is actually her father.
If the title reveals anything, it's the possibility that the upcoming sequel may reveal the source and reason of Rey's immense power against the dark forces.
