"Spider-Man: Homecoming" has definitely landed in the MCU with the release of its official trailer. Shortly after its release on Jimmy Kimmel, an international version, containing more footage has been released.
Scenes with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) mentoring Peter Parker (Tom Holland) were prominently highlighted. One of which clarifies, that despite Peter's involvement in "Civil War," he is not a member of the "Avengers."
Another prominent character featured in the trailer is Michael Keaton's Vulture, who will be the main antagonist in the film. It can be gleaned from the trailer that Peter might have bit more than he can chew in fighting him but Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man will probably lend a hand along the way.
Other scenes show Peter as a regular high school student who is gawking at Liz Allan played by Laura Harrier. For the uninitiated, Harrier was actually the first love interest of Peter Parker in the comics, Screen Rant reported.
This creates a confusion among fans about Zendaya's role in the film who has been constantly rumored to play Mary Jane Watson. In an interview, she went to say that her character's name is actually Michelle, but she went about it in a cryptic way.
"Well, I'm not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie which is exciting. My character's name is Michelle, if that's what everybody wants to think. I'm gonna let people think whatever they want to think," she told ET Online.
Other takeaways include references to the MCU, particularly to the members of the Avengers team and a bit of subtle nods to the earlier films. One includes Peter wearing a shirt that Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) also wore in "Iron Man 3." Another reference is directed towards Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) in a science class.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" opens on June 7, 2017. Watch the international trailer of the film below:
