When "Arrow" Season 5 returns after its hiatus break, Felicity Smoak will unveil a side of her that fans have never seen before.
To recap, Wednesday's midseason finale of "Arrow" titled "What We Leave Behind" unraveled a heavy twist when Oliver was duped to believe that his new foe, Prometheus is the man he had killed. A few moments later, viewers learned that Oli has targeted Felicity's new beau, Billy Malone instead.
While the death of Malone will greatly impact Felicity moving forward, fans should not be let down by the fact that it was the Green Arrow who killed him. According to series executive producer Wendy Mericle, the way Oliver was manipulated into killing Malone is a matter that Felicity understands. However, she adds that this emotional storyline will drive the character into a revenge path.
"Felicity has set her sights on Prometheus," Mericle previewed in a report from TV Line.
"This season we have said we're going to take her to a darker place, and you're seeing the genesis of the reason why, right here."
Mericle further shares that Felicity's dark path on "Arrow" Season 5 will allow her to meet "some people who are both a bit tied to her past but also very much tied to this new future she's contemplating."
While the showrunner did not drop names as to who these new upcoming characters are, she did say that their arrival will serve as a catalyst for Felicity to do things that are "pretty morally questionable."
Felicity's portrayer, Emily Bett Rickards, has not yet commented about her character's latest storyline. But to speculate based on Mericle's statements, it's possible that fans will see Felicity taking on a new role - probably even become the latest vigilante on Team Arrow.
"Arrow" stars Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Echo Kellum, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Paul Blackthorne and Willa Holland. The series will return with Season 5 Episode 10 titled "Who Are You" on Wednesday, Jan. 25 on the CW.
