The world of "Star Trek: Discovery" is continuing to expand, as the show has now cast its first three Klingons.
According to Variety, it was announced that the upcoming sci-fi series produced by CBS, has cast Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieff to play the members of the fan-favorite alien race. As for the trio's character description, the site revealed that "Obi will play T'Kuvma, a Klingon leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses; Latif will play Kol, commanding officer of the Klingons and protégé of T'Kuvma; and Chieffo will play L'Rell, the battle deck commander of the Klingon ship."

The trio joins previously cast Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, who's a new alien species in the "Star Trek" universe, and Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, described as an astromycologist and Starfleet Science Officer aboard the Starship Discovery. Rapp is also the first openly gay character to be introduced in the show.
Michelle Yeoh, who was the first actress to board the show, will play a Starfleet Captain. Producers of "Star Trek: Discovery" has yet to cast a female lead, who was previously teased to be either an African-American or Latina actress.
Ex-showrunner Bryan Fuller recently revealed (via Collider) that "Star Trek: Discovery" will run like a novel of over 13 episodes. He also teased that the show will focus on "an incident and an event in Star Trek history that's been talked about but never been explored."
Fuller recently stepped down as showrunner for the series due to creative differences.
The network has then replaced Fuller with new showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts alongside Akiva Goldsman to take charge of the creative process.
"Star Trek: Discovery" will premiere in May 2017 on CBS. Subsequent episodes will be available for streaming exclusively on CBS All Access.
