The league and its players association have reached a tentative deal on collective bargaining agreement this Wednesday. The seven years tentative agreement is now waiting for ratifications from players and teams.
The deal is reached after a hard work from NBA Comissioner Adam Silver and NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts to find mutual interest in avoiding the lockout which will harm the league and its players.
In their joint press release on Wednesday Dec. 14, the NBA and NBPA announced they have tentatively come to terms on a new CBA as reported by CBS Sports. In order to formalize the agreement, both team owners which is represented by Silver and players who is represented by Roberts have to ratify the CBA.
“The NBA and NBPA have reached a tentative agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, pending ratification by players and team owners,” the joint statement read.
This has been a very good news for the fans of the 70-yeard old professional basketball league, moreover for their international fans. NBA has become a global sports attracting with international players from around the world is playing in the league. Therefore, the team and players will not want to disappoint the fans with the lockout which will happen if the CBA deal was not reached.
There have been some changes to the agreement from the previous one according to Bleacher Report. One of the important change is the teams will be able to offer five-year extensions to players who are already under contract, instead of a four-year. This also relates to the increase of age limit for players who can have the five-year maximum contracts to 38-year old.
