In May this year, Choi Sung Won was reported to have been diagnosed with acute leukemia amid filming of "Mirror of the Witch." The unfortunate news forced the actor to leave the drama series to receive treatment.

"Choi Sung Won, who was originally cast in the role of Dong Rae, went to the hospital on May 4 to receive an examination and was diagnosed with acute leukemia. In order to focus on treatment, he has decided to leave the drama" the producers of the drama announced as per Soompi.

The producers said Choi noticed something unusual on his body including bruises that take longer to heal. "In the case of acute leukemia, Choi Sung Won's doctor is of the opinion that the earlier the disease is discovered and treatment is begun, the higher the odds for a full recovery are," the statement continued.

Seven months after the announcement, Choi's agency on Tuesday shared an update on the recovery of the actor from acute leukemia. A staff of the agency said the actor has undergone the final round of his chemotherapy during the Chuseok Holiday, as noted by Allkpop.

He said the "Reply 1988" actor was then discharged from the hospital after the treatment, adding that Choi currently receives outpatient treatment to combat leukemia. "Choi Sung Won had great enthusiasm towards his recovery and endured the treatment well. As a result, he was able to be released from the hospital," the staff said.

The staff added they are proud of Choi's disposition in dealing with the matter. He also said the actor will still continue to receive treatments until he completely recovers from acute leukemia.

"Fans' encouragements mean a lot to him, so please do not forget him and continue to cheer him on," the staff ended the statement.

Get well soon Choi Sung Won!
