Stephen Curry played far below his standard in the losing game against Cavaliers on Christmas. Something clearly holds him to deliver his best shooting performance, but Steve Kerr knows that he should not worry about the slump.
Curry only shot 4 out of 11 from the field making only 15 points in the game as the Cavaliers defeated Golden State Warriors 108-109 in a tight game. But coach Kerr said that he did not worry about Curry’s slump, because the real issue is his leadership on court which was not effective.
"I think he can be a little smarter, I think he can make better decisions, and that'll help against anybody," Kerr said, as quoted by ESPN. “I'm not worried about him missing shots; I'm more worried about just decision-making and making sure that we're where we need to be as a group."
The two-times MVP showed that he needs to improve his decision making ability on court. It is because as a point guard, he also needs to pass the ball and make play. Therefore losing the game against Cleveland Cavaliers is a valuable experience for both Curry and the team.
Burdened by role as floor general, his three-point shooting percentage this season is recorded as the worst of his careers, according to FOX Sports. Curry only made 39.9 percent of his shooting from behind the arc, compared to last season’s 45.4 percent or 44.3 from the 2014-15 season.
This season, Curry shows a slight decrease in his statistics. He averages 24.1 points and 5.9 assists per game. In accordance to coach Kerr said, Curry need to make smarter decision and smarter plauy. Since he was clearly outsmarted by the Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving in the Christmas game.
Irving posted a 25 points, 10 assists and 7 steals, compared to Curry’s 15 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Watch the highlight of battle between two point guards below:
