Tech company Cyanogen whose aim was to beat Android by Google has decided to close down as soon as the year ends due to OnePlus pulling the plug on their deal to work with them. Users of this operating system will no longer receive updates nor would they be able to create one on their own.
In an article published by Forbes, Cyanogen's client OnePlus, known for being their most high-profile client decided to do their business on their own using OxygenOS. They want to have their own Android platform, which is why they chose to cut all ties with Cyanogen. Unfortunately for the company who made CyanogenMod famous and useful for a lot of people, losing OnePlus as their customer also means losing their entire business. Their phone users would now have to use the Open Source version of CyanogenMod.
For a moment, Cyanogen was able to sell their OS to big wigs like WileyFox and OnePlus. Not only that, because according to Digital Trends, this company has opened a lot of doors for developers and tech junkies to learn more about Android since they made it free and open for everybody.
Their ending has disappointed a lot of people, as they expected a lot from it. They started well with a goal to beat Google by building an enhanced and better version of Android for everyone. It was so promising that they offer more features for phone users than what Google has built.
The problem is it would be difficult for any company whose focus is on mods to not have enough money to fund it. Plus iteration mods are not something in demand anymore unlike before when Cyanogen was just starting out. No more late nights for the guys of this company and users are warned that there won't be any more security updates as well.
