Not all singers-turned-actors find success by doing both at the same; however, Choi Minho has been receiving praises for being a SHINee member and for his role in his recent film "Derailed."
In an interview, Choi Minho admitted he started in the acting industry with poor acting, adding that it felt like he started a new journey without knowing much about it. The SHINee member made his debut as an actor in 2010, a couple of years after joining the K-Pop group.
The idol admitted he started to question himself about his acting skills, which made him motivated to improve and be enthusiastic towards his craft.
"I started to question myself. "Why did I not show more of myself when I act or when I work?" As I got to correct some of the things I misunderstood, I became more excited and energetic," Choi Minho said as per Korea Joongang Daily.
He added that no one told him to debut as an actor, stating that it was more of a personal decision. Choi Minho also said acting requires longer patience as compared to performing in front of thousands of people.
"When it comes to acting, being patient is more important, especially when you do a movie. You need to pay more attention to the smallest details rather than try to exaggerate," he stated.
The SHINee member also said singers-turned-actors are being evaluated depending on their performance. He added that if the idol performs well as an actor, he will surely win the support of the people.
A report from Variety cited Choi Minho considered his experience in "Derailed" a one of a kind, considering that the project was a rough indie production. The SHINee member shared the big screen with Ma Dong Seok in the movie.
The idol even admitted he thought his agency would stop him from taking part in "Derailed" since his character in the movie is entirely the opposite of what he has established as a SHINee member.
"Derailed" hit the theaters of Korea last Nov. 30.
