"Before Sunrise" actress Julie Delpy has written and will direct in an emotional parenting drama "My Zoe." She will also star along with "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" star Gemma Arterton and "Rush" actor Daniel Brühl.
According to Variety, Delpy plays the role of Isabelle in "My Zoe." She is a geneticist recovering from a toxic marriage and raising her daughter Zoe in conjunction with her ex-husband. Arterton and Brühl play a couple Isabelle turns to for help in Moscow.
In the plot of the "My Zoe," Isabelle takes matters into her own hands when tragedy strikes her fractured family. The film is an emotional and provocative story about the lengths to which the love of a mother goes for her child, Deadline reported.
"Philomena" Oscar-nominated Gabrielle Tana is producing "My Zoe" for Steve Coogan's Baby Cow Films. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales on the film and will present the project to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin in February. Hubert Caillard and Dominique Boutonnat of France's Electrik Films will co-produce.
Protagonist Pictures' Chief Executive Officer Mike Goodridge said that "My Zoe" is one of those movies that people would stand and argue about. He said that Delpy has created a compulsive drama about what it means to be a parent and what lengths the parent would go for their children.
Delpy commented that "My Zoe" is about the unconditional love as a parent. She added that she gave all the truth she had in the story. The Oscar-nominated writer, filmmaker, and actress hoped that the story would resonate with others.
Delpy is best known for her role in Director Richard Linklater's trilogy "Before Sunrise" in which she also co-wrote sharing Oscar nominations for "Before Sunset" and "Before Midnight." Her writing/directing credits include "The Countess," romance drama "2 Days in New York," and comedy "Lolo." She is represented by CAA and Markham, Froggatt and Irwin in the UK.
"My Zoe" is scheduled to shoot in the UK next spring.
