"Ghost Rider" actor Nicolas Cage is set to lead in the science-fiction action thriller film "The Humanity Bureau." "Something More" director Rob King is being helmed on it from a script penned by Dave Schultz.
According to Variety, Cage will play an ambitious and impartial caseworker Noah Kross in "The Humanity Bureau." His character investigates a case appealed by a single mother ("The Exorcism of Molly Hartley" star Sarah Lind) and her son Lucas Weller ("The Adventure Club" alum Jakob Davies). Knowing the unjust fate of the innocent boy, Kross sets off to save their lives and expose the truth about The Humanity Bureau's secrets once.
"The Humanity Bureau" is set in the year 3030 when global warming has wreaked havoc in parts of the American Midwest, Deadline reported. In its attempt to take hold of the economic recession, the government agency The Humanity Bureau exiles members of society deemed unproductive and banishes them to a colony known as New Eden.
With Bridgegate Pictures producing, Minds Eye International has North American distribution rights of "The Humanity Bureau" while VMI Worldwide has international rights. Producers are Kevin Dewalt, Danielle Masters, and Kelly-Rae Buchan. Executive producers are Andre Relis, Wayne Marc Godfrey, Guy Griffithe, Robert Jones, and Frank White.
"The Humanity Bureau" marks the second title in a six-picture slate deal between Minds Eye Entertainment, VMI worldwide, and Bridgegate Pictures following Wesley Snipes' "The Recall," which was sold this year at the American Film Market. It will be shot in the Barco Escape multi-screen, panoramic movie format Portions of the films will also be shot in Virtual Reality.
Cage is represented by CAA, LINK Entertainment, and Jake Bloom and Patrick Knapp at Bloom, Hergott. He recently starred in the crime caper "Dog Eat Dog" opposite Willem Dafoe and will soon head to the Middle East for loony satire "Army of One."
Shooting of "The Humanity Bureau" has already started last month in British Columbia, Canada.
