"The Lego Movie" voice actor Will Arnett and "Orange Is the New Black" actress Natasha Lyonne are set to star in Open Road's family comedy "Show Dogs." "Scooby-Doo" director Raja Gosnell is being helmed on it.
According to Variety, Ludacris will voice a rugged, lone-wolf Rottweiler New York Police Department police dog named Max in "Show Dogs." His character is partnered with his human Federal Bureau Investigation partner Frank (Arnett).
Lyonne will play as the seasoned trainer in "Show Dogs." The voice cast also includes "The Hunger Games" actor Stanley Tucci as Philippe, "The Good Wife" actor Alan Cumming as Dante, "Magic Mike XXL" actor Gabriel Iglesias as Sprinkles, and "Highston" actor Shaquille O'Neal as Karma, Deadline reported.
"Show Dogs" centers on Max with Frank who are investigating the kidnapping of a baby panda by an underground network of illegal animal traders when they get a tip that the crime ring is planning to sell the panda at the prestigious Canini Invitational Dog Show. With the help of a seasoned trainer to thwart the plot, Max must undergo a makeover including mud baths, ballet lessons, and a Brazilian waxing.
"Opposite Day" writer Max Botkin and "The Perfect Score" writer Marc Hyman are penning the script of "Show Dogs." Production companies are Riverstone Pictures and Open Road Films in association with Kintop Pictures and Alive Entertainment. "Dredd" producer Deepak Nayar and "Electric Slide" executive producer Philip von Alvensleben are producing along with Gosnell, Botkin, Open Road's Chief Executive Officer Tom Ortenberg, "Suffragette" producer Nik Bower, "Paranoia" producer Scott Lambert, "Ukiyo-e Heroes" producer Yu-Fai Suen and Robert Norris on board to executive produce.
Arnett's credits include voicing Batman in "Lego Batman," along with starring in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Flaked" on Netflix. Lyonne stars in Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black." Gosnell's credits include "The Smurfs," "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and "Scooby-Doo."
"Show Dogs" already began shooting on Nov. 28, 2016, at Pinewood Studio Wales in the UK and is set to release on Nov. 10. The international sales will be handled by Open Road International through its partnership with FilmNation Entertainment along with Riverstone Pictures, Wales Screen (advised by Pinewood Pictures), and Pinewood Films providing the finance.
