"Rush Hour" star Jackie Chan boards Joe Carnahan's action movie "Five Against A Bullet" for Sony. He has signed on to star as one of the bodyguards.
"Five Against A Bullet" is set in a small Mexican town under attack by the drug cartel, Variety reported. It centers on five best bodyguards from around the world who are signed on to protect a Mexican politician after his father is murdered by a cartel, ahead of an election.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carnahan came on to the "Five Against A Bullet" in 2014 to direct and re-write the original script from Alex Litvak. He has proven himself adept at this type of muscular material, having written and directed such movies as "Narc," "Smokin' Aces," and "The Grey." He last directed a Blumhouse thriller "Stretch" that has not yet been released.
"Five Against A Bullet" has been sitting idle for several years after initially attracting actors. "Die Hard" actor Bruce Willis was initially attached in early 2012 to star but is no longer on the project. At that time, Carnahan is attached only as the writer.
Willis is recently seen in Xiao Feng's war drama "The Bombing." He is currently in post-production for this year's three upcoming movies, namely, comedy "Once Upon a Time in Venice," action thriller "First Kill" alongside Hayden Christensen, and Eli Roth's crime drama "Death Wish."
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing "Five Against A Bullet" through his Di Bonaventura Pictures for Sony along with Suretone Pictures, Jordan Schur through Mimran Schur Pictures, and Chan. He is best known for the "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" franchises. He was also a producer on Mark Wahlberg's disaster movie "Deepwater Horizon" and New Line's upcoming shark tentpole "Meg."
Chan is currently filming for "Journey to China: The Mystery of Iron Mask." He has been acting since the late 1960s and has credits on more than 150 films. His upcoming movies include "Bleeding Steel," "The Foreigner," and his martial-arts comedy "Railroad Tigers," which is currently in theaters.
