Series creator Ildy Modrovich talked about Tim DeKay's role in "Lucifer" Season 2 in a recent interview. He revealed that the "White Collar" actor's character is the new "Big Bad guy" in the story, since he does terrible things.
DeKay plays the role of Dr. Jacob Carlisle in the midseason of "Lucifer" Season 2. He is a successful neurosurgeon who has good intentions. However, Modrovich said that he is not all good, since he also does terrible things.
The showrunner hinted that the terrible acts happened after a conflicting situation tested the neurosurgeon's moral decision. Somehow, Dr. Carlisle wants to make up for the bad decision he made and doing so brings out the "Big Bad" in him.
"He was faced with making a horrible moral call, in the middle of distress, and now he's kind of backpedaling from that. But in doing that, he does bad things," Modrovich told TV Line.
DeKay debuts Dr. Carlisle in "Lucifer" Season 2 episode 12 and 13. According to Comicbook, his encounter with Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) does not end well. It leads to a deadly consequence on someone close to the devil.
Followers of the Fox series are aware that there is only one special person that Lucifer truly cares about-- is Chloe Decker (Lauren German). The devil would trade his life to keep the detective safe and alive. The Season 1 finale saw him plead God to spare Chloe's life in exchange for his. Then in "Lucifer" Season 2, he killed his brother Uriel to save the detective.
Perhaps, Dr. Carlisle's encounter with Lucifer seriously harms Chloe. Regardless, fans will know for sure just what kind of a "Big Bad" DeKay's character is when he debuts his character on the Jan. 23 episode. Meanwhile, the midseason premiere of "Lucifer" Season 2, episode 11, airs Jan. 16 on Fox at its usual timeslot at 9:00 p.m.
