A popular TV series from the late 70s to early 80s is coming back with a big screen adaptation. "CHiPs" is finally coming to the big screen featuring the same motorcycle action but with a different focus as it aims to be a raunchy comedy film.
R-Rated Buddy Cop Film
"CHiPs" is one of the most popular TV series on its day and its getting a re-imagination in the big screen in more ways than one. According to Empire Online, the upcoming comedy movie will be an R-Rated and the rating is not going to be on the bloody encounters but rather on some interesting adult content that somehow got squeezed into the film.
The upcoming film will be carried by Dax Shepard (also its writer and director) and Michael Peña. According to the trailer, the upcoming feature will have a small twist on Peña's characters, Poncho. Poncho's character in the TV series has always been a member of the highway patrol group but Peña will be assigned to the highway patrol as an undercover agent of the FBI.
The feature film's depiction of Dax's Jon is also different. In the series, Jon is the straight guy in the duo but the trailer tells that Jon is also another troublesome highway patrol officer. His only saving grace in staying with the force is the fact that he's really good in the bike.
Buddy Cop Trend
According to TV Line, the upcoming comedy film follows the growing trend of buddy cop comedy taken from different TV series. "21 Jump Street" opened the floodgates on the possibility of digging up old TV series for comedy gold because of its successful run in the theater and "Baywatch," featuring Dwayne Johnson and Zach Efron, is following suit. "CHiPs" will debut in theaters March 24.
