Park Yoochun has been cleared of the rape charges that was filed against him in June 2016. His accuser, a woman publicly known as Ms. Lee, was the one who will be sentenced to jail for falsely accusing the singer/actor.
Yonhap News reported that Judge Choi Jong Jin handed down a 2-year prison term after finding Lee guilty of defamation of character when she claimed that Yoochun sexually assaulted her. She received the sentence on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the Seoul Central District Court.
Likewise, there was no evidence that will prove her allegations so the singer was cleared. However, Yoochun has been indicted for soliciting prostitution and fraud for one of the four cases.
In his decision to charge Lee, the judge explained that he found that she continued to hang out with Yoochun and his friends, even after returning from the restroom, where she said she was raped. In addition, the woman was seen happily talking with the bar's waiters after Yoochun left. Hence, her claims were deemed to be false.
Aside from Lee, her cousin who is also a gang member named Hwang will also spend two a half years in jail. On the other hand, Lee's boyfriend was charged for attempted extortion and was given a lighter sentence of just one year and six months jail term. The two men were the ones who actually blackmailed Yoochun and his agency C-JeS Entertainment, Kpop Herald reported.
A few weeks after filing the rape case, Lee withdrew the charge and admitted that it was a consensual act. The singer then countersued her for false accusation and blackmail where huge amount of money was involved.
Finally, the judge said that because this incident where Yoochun was made to look as as a sex offender, he suffered from irreparable damage since he is a celebrity. Now his work in the entertainment business was jeopardized. For this, the judge stated that the defendants deserve their punishment because they also made no efforts to right their wrongdoings.
