Lionsgate dropped the full-length trailer for the "Power Rangers" movie and revealed Bryan Cranston as the galactic sage Zordon, an all-new Megazord design and other things to expect from the reboot.
Directed by Dean Israelite, the "Power Rangers" movie is a reboot of the franchise, which focuses on five crime fighting teenagers with super powers while using giant mechas known as Zords. The franchise originated from Japan as the Western adaptation of "Super Sentai," and already has 23 series and 2 movies to date since its inception in 1993, according to Empire. The reboot brings the franchise up to date in the modern era, along with new battle suits for the Rangers, a new Megaword design and a digital, modernized version of Zordan as played by Bryan Cranston as per Collider.
The upcoming movie is the third adaptation of the series in the silver screen, and "Power Rangers" takes the franchise back to the beginning, where the five Rangers have just met and aren't familiar with each other yet.
One of the interesting things hinted at the trailer is the idea of a league of Rangers, according to Den of Geek. When Zordan briefs the Rangers on their history, he tells them that the "Power Rangers" was a legion of warriors. This means that there might be multiple Rangers in existence, not just the five-man team that fans of the franchise are familiar with. In the first trailer, Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) has also stated that she has killed off previous Rangers.
Rita Repulsa also gets a costume redesign with an exotic green ensemble, and terrorizes the town of Angel Grove with her army of Putties, who resemble golems and Goldar, the faithful general of Repulsa's army. The "Power Rangers" mobilize together to fend off Goldar with the Megazord, and the trailer ends with a showdown between the two.
"Power Rangers" opens on theaters on March 24, 2017. Watch the trailer here:
