"Ranjhana" star Dhanush is seemingly on a cloud nine after signing his Hollywood debut film. The actor has been roped in by Marjane Satrapi of "Persepolis" fame to act alongside Hollywood bigwig Uma Thurman and Alexandra Daddario, to star in a movie based upon the bestseller "The Extraordinary Journey Of the Fakir Who Got Trapped In The Ikea Cupboard."
The actor, who is currently busy shooting "Kodi" wherein he plays a typical rural politician, is apparently very happy about the offer that came his way.
"More than debuting as an actor in Hollywood, it was the role that excited me. The director, Marjane Satrapi, felt I would be apt for this role and I feel there are many facets I can explore for this character," Firstpost quoted the 32-year-old actor as saying.
Based on Romain Puertolas' bestselling debut novel, the comedy adventure movie will follow the life story of a con man from India, who falls in love with a woman when he reaches Paris, but accidentally gets deported to far corners of Europe along with a group of African refugees against his choice.
The film additionally stars Barkhad Abdi, Laurent Lafitte and "The Bandit Queen" actress Seema Biswas.
Dhanush was apparently on the lookout for an international offer for the past couple of years. The actor reportedly wanted to explore new frontiers and create an identity for himself as an international actor.
Dhanush will complete filming "Kodi" by March, and reportedly start preparing for his Hollywood debut, the shooting for which will start in the first week of June.
Since the storyline of the movie spreads across three continents, the filming of the same will reportedly take place in different countries. Satrapi has zeroed down Casablanca to shoot some scenes, in addition to other international destinations such as Paris, Rome, and Jodhpur, Morocco World News reported.
With his new project, Dhanush follows the footsteps of a growing number of Indian stars who have been getting international parts over the past few years, including "Jurassic World" star Irrfan Khan, "Quantico" star Priyanka Chopra and Om Puri of "The Hundred-Foot Journey" fame.
