Golden State Warriors signed young point guard Briante Weber who just won the NBA D-League Player of the Month in January. The Warriors waived center Anderson Varejao in order to make space for Weber.

Weber signed a 10-day contract with Golden State Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 4 from the NBA Development team Sioux Falls Skyforce, ESPN reported. Head coach Steve Kerr said the Warriors scouting team really like his athleticism and defensive trait.

"I've watched some tape on him over the last month or so,” Coach Kerr said. “Our scouts really like him. Very athletic and defensive-minded."

He will be played to toughen the lean Warriors back court, according to SF Gate. His defensive tenacity and toughness is expected to beef up the Warriors defense and increase depth in the back court.

The 6’2” point guard is known for his defensive play since his high school year. He played his college basketball with the Virginia Commonwealth Rams.

He was the NCAA leader for steals in his junior year in 2013-14 season and winning Defensive Player of The Year for three consecutive years from 2013 to 2015. Unfortunately his senior season in 2014-15 ended prematurely as he suffered a torn ACL and MCL.

He went undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft due to his recovery process from knee injury. So he played in the NBA D-League with Sioux Falls Skyforce, but NBA teams scouts still keep an eye on him. He signed a short-term contract with two NBA teams Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat before returning back to D-League.

This time he had an opportunity to play with the player which he knows only in the video game. He admitted that playing with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green is really something big for him.
